Metaphor

A metaphor is a comparison of two unlike things. Examples of metaphors are simile, personification, anthropomorphism, hyperbole, parable, fable, animism, and analogy. Each of these examples are all different. A simile is comparing two things with nothing in common using "like" or "as". Personification is human qualities given to animals or objects. Anthropomorphism is based on gods. Hyperbole is an Overstatement. parable features human characters. Fable features animals , nature and objects. Animism is a spiritual idea that can work for humans and animals. Finally an analogy is a comparison between two words with the same relationship. "The Forces That Through the Green Fuse Drives the Flower" by Dylan Thomas (1914-1953) on the First stanza you can see there is a relationship between the force of Nature and it can be related to humans. The metaphor for this is animism. In this poem is mostly personification. Using the word "I" is using the ability to do something about it . the protagonist. in the poem "A Meditation for his Mistress" Robert Herrick used a lo of metaphors. A comparison with two unlike things for example he says "You are a lovely July-flower, Yet one rude wind or ruffling shower" he other metaphor he used is simile another examples is " You are like balm enclosed well In amber or some crystal shell " . In Emily Dickinson poem "Beclouded" she uses the metaphor Anthropomorphism. she states "Take care, for God is here, That's all". in her other poem called "The Wind" she uses simile and metaphor as she goes "His speech was like the push Of numerous humming-birds at once". Another poem of Emily called "I Took My Power In My Hand" she uses Personification on the first stanza by just saying "I took my power in my hand And went against the world" In conclusion I use metaphors throughout my life. for example I use anthropomorphism every Sunday because I go to church. The word god is use a lot of times. Another one I use a lot is simile. I always use the word "Like" when explaining something. Personification is the one that applies the most to me because I always use "I" is referring to me. In the poem a leaf falls is another way of expressing loneliness.
